RCMP Canmore Investigates Fraud – Charges Laid

A six month long fraud investigation has resulted in several charges being laid against a 49 year old Canmore resident.  James Russell NEILSON has been charged with 3 counts of fraud over $5000, 1 count of theft over $5000 and 1 count of laundering the proceeds of crime.  The charges were laid after several individuals and businesses reported fraudulent activities related to investments they had made with a company run by Mr. NEILSON.

On May 13, 2015, Mr. NEILSON was arrested and brought before a justice of the peace.  He was released on bail with very strict conditions, including that he have no involvement in the sale of any financial service, or act in a position of trust related to any other persons’ finances.  He is set to appear in Canmore Provincial Court on May 27, 2015.

Canmore RCMP are asking that anyone else who believes that they may have been a victim to contact the detachment at 403-678-5519.

RCMP Canmore Investigates Collision With Injuries

On May 19th, 2015 at approximately 12:50 am Canmore RCMP attempted to stop a vehicle travelling just over 200 km/hr on the Trans Canada Highway near Canmore. The vehicle driver attempted to exit the highway at Exit 93, and lost control of the vehicle. The driver fled the scene leaving four injured passengers in the vehicle. The injured have been treated in hospital. There were no fatalities involved in this collision.

Canmore RCMP continues the investigation. The identity of the driver is known, and a number of charges are being considered.
