RCMP in Alberta Busy in Parks on Weekend


RCMP conducted search for human remains near Banff, Alberta

Banff RCMP were working with Search and Rescue in conducting a search near Banff, Alberta for human remains on Saturday.

This search is a follow up search from an earlier investigation in which partial remains were recovered in Banff National Park in August, 2013.

The identity of the person whom the search is being conducted for is known to police but is not being released. Since the initial findings the RCMP has determined this incident to be non-criminal.

The 25 person volunteer search party consisted of members from both Cochrane Search and Rescue and Calgary Search and Rescue. The search did not interfere with any access to the Park or its amenities.

RCMP investigate Death at Upper Kananaskis Lake

On July 26, 2014 at approximately 12:56 p.m. Kananaskis RCMP were dispatched to a report of an unconscious male who had been pulled to shore at the Upper Kananaskis Lake. The 42 year old male had been kayaking when he was observed by witnesses to be in distress. Members of the public assisted and pulled the male to shore and performed CPR on him. STARS ambulance attended however, the male was pronounced deceased at the scene.

This incident is still under investigation and further details will be release once they become available.
