Fraud Scam Targets the Elderly

Airdrie, Alberta – Between the dates of May 21, 2015, and June 2, 2015, Airdrie RCMP has received three reports of Fraud, which have been nicknamed the “Grandparent Scam”. This scam involves an elderly person receiving a telephone call from an alleged family member or friend requesting money. The person states they are in some sort of trouble, for instance they have been arrested and need bail, involved with a collision and need money to settle out of court, etc. In some instances, the suspect will actually put a person on the phone impersonating this loved one and although their voice sounds different, they explain the change by pretending to be hurt, sick or stuffed up. The total loss from these occurrences combined is over five thousand Canadian dollars.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have information regarding this occurrence to contact Airdrie RCMP at 403-945-7200 or General Investigation Section Cst. Paul STEWART at (403) 945-7202. Theft of Truck, Trailer and Boat in Woodside

Boat Airdrie, AB – Sometime on the evening of June 1st 2015 or early morning of June 2nd, 2015, a truck, trailer and boat were taken from a driveway on Woodside Crescent.

The owner of the property awoke to find the items missing and contacted RCMP.

RCMP attended and obtained photos of the truck and Truckboat, which are described as;

  • 2006 Ford Super Duty, Copper in colour
  • 2006 Fourwinns Funseeker boat
  • Fourwinns boat trailer
