RCMP Airdrie – Thefts

RCMP Airdrie recover stolen vehicles with assistance from CPS
On January 23rd, 2016, at 10:00 PM, Airdrie RCMP received a complaint from a concerned neighbour that a trailer with two skidoos were just stolen outside his residence in the Morningside area of Airdrie.
The neighbour followed the suspect vehicle out of Airdrie until RCMP vehicles were in the area and took over tracking the vehicle.  A spike belt was deployed successfully on Symon Valley Road, just north of Calgary city limits and the vehicle stopped a short distance away.  Three males ran from the vehicle and were tracked by RCMP police dog services.  As one male was being tracked by the dog, two others hid in a nearby farmyard Quonset.
RCMP secured the farmyard and due to the proximity to Calgary, Calgary Police provided numerous officers for assistance with entering the Quonset, where two males were found hiding in farm equipment.  All three males from the truck were located and arrested.  Two of the three males were taken to a Calgary area hospital for minor non-life threatening injuries.
A 33 year old male from Olds, Alberta faces the following charges:
-Possession of Stolen Property over $5000
-Theft over $5000
He was released from custody and has a court appearance in March.
A 24 year old male from Calgary, Alberta faces the following charges:
-Possession of Stolen Property over $5000
-Theft over $5000
-Break and Enter
He was released from custody and has a court appearance in March.
A 45 year old male from Didsbury, Alberta faces the following charges:
-Possession Stolen Property over $5000
-Theft over $5000
-Break and Enter
-Failing to comply with conditions of release x 3
-Failing to comply with conditions of probation x 4
He is still in custody and awaiting to go before a justice of the peace to determine his release.
RCMP would like to remind citizens of the risks of following suspects after they have committed a crime.  It is never a good idea to follow suspects, especially into a rural area late at night.  “At the end of the day, it is only property that can be replaced” said Cst. Matt Gervais.
