RCMP Airdrie – Beware of Hail Damage Repair Frauds

RCMP-Crest-insigne1-e1393524295759.jpgAirdrie, Alberta – Following intense Hail Storms in Airdrie last week, many citizens have suffered loss and damage to their residences.

Airdrie RCMP has been made aware of ongoing construction frauds.

Fraudsters attend door to door at residences which have apparent hail damage. The fraudster speaks to the occupant of the residence, and offers to repair hail damage at a discounted price, stating that they do not operate with insurance companies, as when a claim is made with an insurance firm, the homeowners rates will go up.

The fraudster then takes pictures of the damage, collects a cash deposit, and assures the homeowner that his crew will return the following day. No crew ever arrives, and the fraudster retains the homeowner’s cash deposit, never to return.

The Airdrie RCMP would like to advise the public that contractors attending door to door is not common business practice and suspicious in itself. It is recommended to research companies and request credentials prior to entering into business contracts or giving deposits.

If it seems too good to be true, it likely is.

The RCMP also asks that citizens report any suspicious activity to the Airdrie RCMP at 403-945-7200 or 403-945-7267
