The Augustana Miquelon Lake Research Station is housed within the provincial park and will serve as an important resource to study human and wildlife impacts on the natural environment.
“Our parks are amazing living laboratories. They offer researchers unique opportunities to study Alberta’s wildlife, ecology, geology and history. The work done at this research station will help achieve our goals of greater environmental protection and sustainability.”
~ Shannon Phillips, Minister of Environment and Parks
Government contributed $75,000 to the facility and a nominal annual lease fee of $1. A significant outcome of the research station will be the integration of natural science and social research to promote long-term sustainability of the landscape, including Alberta’s provincial parks.
“This new facility will provide excellent research opportunities for students and faculty at the U of A Augustana Campus and will build on the tremendous research capacity found throughout our post-secondary system.”
~ Lori Sigurdson, Minister of Innovation and Advanced Education
“I am particularly proud of the partnership that has led to the construction of the Augustana Miquelon Lake Research Station. The connections we have built with the province, county governments, and numerous individual donors will produce wonderful opportunities for our students and faculty.”
~ Dr. Allen Berger, Dean of Augustana Campus
