Both communities will be spruced up for the summer, thanks to this annual event. We will be looking for volunteers to help plant trees on the arena site.

The Foothills Lions Club will be supplying and cooking the Luncheon on Green Day – (muffins and coffee in the morning and burgers for lunch) and Diamond Valley Disposal will provide a bin which will be located at the Scott Seaman Sports Rink on Green Day as well.

Various areas of both towns will be cleaned up, along with garbage pick-up along the highway between Turner Valley and Black Diamond, and the Friendship Trail. The Black Diamond Parks and Recreation Committee and the Town of Turner Valley are leading this project. This is a community effort to improve the appearance of the towns, while also helping to preserve the environment. It is an opportunity to work together, instills local pride, and encourages volunteer participation. Volunteers are asked to bring their own work gloves.

In 2013, approximately 70 volunteers from all age groups participated, including a great show of support from everyone in both communities and our local Foothills Lions Club. Over 200 volunteer hours were logged for the day.
Project Green Day is a great event that allows community members from Black Diamond, Turner Valley and the M.D. of Foothills to be active in helping to keep our environment clean. Together, we are making a difference – thank you to all those who helped in the past. We hope as many volunteers and more, will join us this year.

Volunteers from both communities are asked to register at the Scott Seaman Sports Rink in Black Diamond starting at 9:00 AM. Work assignments will be designated at that time. Morning coffee and muffins will be served prior to and during the registration process. A volunteer appreciation BBQ lunch will be hosted by the Lions at the Sports Rink at noon, after all the work is done.

Eco-friendly door prizes and displays will also be part of the morning’s activities. Sponsors of this event include the Town of Turner Valley, the Town of Black Diamond, Volker Stevin, and the Foothills Lions Club.
