Calgary (and Edmonton) — For the first time in six years, there is pro playoff hockey in Alberta, and ATB Financial is helping tell the storey on the Edmonton skyline.
Yes, the Edmonton skyline.
“Congratulations to Calgary, to their captain, Mark Giordano and to the players and management and fans in Calgary,” says Dave Mowat, ATB Financial President & CEO. “There is great rivalry between Calgary and Edmonton, and we don’t expect that to ever go away.
“But there were lots of so-called experts who said they wouldn’t make it. That kind of talk has never been what Alberta is made of.”
When Calgary clinched a playoff spot with a win last night against Los Angeles, ATB Place headquarters in Edmonton lit up in Calgary team colours. Calgary last made it to the playoffs in 2009.
“We’ll light the building every playoff game night to show our support,” says Mowat.
“Maybe a bank or credit union in Vancouver will do the same to support their team?!”
Calgary, about to face off against Vancouver in the first round of the playoffs, boasts six players from Alberta: Lance Bouma (Provost), Joe Colborne (Calgary), Mason Raymond (Cochrane), Derek Engelland (Edmonton), Kris Russell (Caroline) and David Schlemko (Edmonton).
