The Alberta Women’s Science Network (AWSN) Society is dedicated to the promotion of careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) among youth and under-represented professionals from Alberta.
Earlier this August, AWSN ran its 3rd Annual Power to Choose Aboriginal Youth Summer Science camp, bringing together Aboriginal youth and Aboriginal mentors to awaken the love for sciences in young minds. The camp served Aboriginal youth Grades 7 to 10.
For 3 nights, campers stayed in UofC residence and had the opportunity to be immersed in STEM topics. These topics were covered in a hands-on, fun and most importantly, age- and culturally-appropriate ways: through ways of knowing, story telling and mentorship.
