The redevelopment of Pinehurst Lake campground in the Lakeland Provincial Recreation Area this summer will expand outdoor recreation opportunities for Alberta families.
Construction in the northeast Alberta recreation area will include approximately 100 new rustic campsites suitable for modern recreational vehicles. The old campground will be converted into a day-use area for the campers and include vault toilets, picnic areas, fire pits, a playground, a boat launch and additional parking.
“Expanding recreation opportunities within our provincial parks system is an investment in the well-being of Albertans and supports the diversification of our economy through added tourism.”
The $700,000 project is expected to begin in early July and be completed for the 2017 camping season. Pinehurst campground will remain open during construction, since the new campground is being developed in a different area.
Pinehurst Lake campground is located within central Alberta’s scenic Lakeland County and experiences high user demand. The redevelopment will provide many opportunities for families within the region to enjoy and connect with nature.
Additional Alberta Parks camping opportunities within the Lakeland Provincial Recreation Area include Seibert, Touchwood and Ironwood campgrounds.
