Piikani Nation RCMP Locate Stolen Hay Bales and Arrest One Male After Search Warrant Executed

Brocket, Alta. – On Jan. 6 2020, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Piikani Nation RCMP located stolen hay bales at a residence near the community of Brocket, Alta. The hay bales were originally stolen out of Pincher Creek, Alta. Police applied for a warrant to enter the residence and upon execution, located one male who was arrested without incident. Police continued their investigation and as a result, applied for a warrant to search the residence. During the execution of the warrant, police located and seized fourteen firearms, a large amount of ammunition, and a quantity of methamphetamine. Police also recovered a truck that was reported stolen out of Pincher Creek earlier that morning. Jessie Flett, a 33-year-old male from Fort Vermillion, Alta. was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime, over $5000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime, less then $5000
  • Mischief over $5000
  • Possession of a weapon obtained by crime (X 2)
  • Possession of methamphetamine
  • Alter/Destroy/Remove a vehicle identification number (VIN)
  • Careless use of a firearm (X11)
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon (X14)
  • Fail to comply with Recognizance (X2)

“The search warrant that was executed is a great example of an intelligence-led investigation where stolen property, firearms, and illicit drugs were recovered,” says Cst. Russell Stepanick of Piikani Nation Detachment. “Our detachment will continue to work with community partners and residents to address the concerns of illegal activities, with the goal of working together to keep our community safe.” Flett was remanded after a judicial release hearing and is scheduled to appear in Lethbridge Provincial Court on January 9, 2020.
