Okotoks RCMP Respond to a Gun Complaint at a Rural Residence


Okotoks, Alberta – On February 24, 2018 at approximately 5:30 am, the Okotoks RCMP responded to a complaint of shots fired at a rural residence and within minutes members were on scene.

The owner of the residence encountered two individuals rummaging through his vehicle(s). During the confrontation with the individuals, there were an unknown number of shots fired from a firearm. The suspects then fled the scene. One individual was later located with an injury to his arm and was taken to a local hospital to receive medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries. The second individual has not been located at this time. The home owner has been detained in custody pending the investigation.

There is no danger to the public at this time. The investigation has been taken over by the General Investigation Section in Okotoks. Forensic Identification section is also assisting with the investigation. This is an active investigation and is still ongoing.  Updates will be provided when they are available.

Police remind citizens to refrain from any attempts to pursue or engage with suspicious individuals and to instead immediately report any incidents to police. Collaboration between the RCMP and the public is instrumental to the success of our intelligence-led crime reduction strategy. The simple act of reporting any suspicious activity or crime provides us with the necessary information to gather intelligence.
