Okotoks RCMP Member Injured in Traffic Collision


Okotoks, Alberta – At approximately 7:40 this morning an Okotoks RCMP member, while pursuing a suspect vehicle, was involved in a collision with a different vehicle at an intersection within Okotoks.

The event started when the RCMP member confronted a stolen vehicle in the Walmart parking lot.  While trying to orchestrate a traffic stop with this vehicle, the driver of the stolen vehicle attempted to run over two RCMP officers. The stolen vehicle sped away and struck several parked cars, resulting in a pursuit by the RCMP.  During the pursuit, the RCMP vehicle was struck in an intersection at North Ridge Drive and Elizabeth Street by an unrelated civilian vehicle.

The driver of the civilian vehicle was not injured.  The driver of the RCMP vehicle was transported to a local hospital.  He sustained non life threatening injuries, including a broken arm, and has been treated and released from the hospital.

An RCMP Collision Analyst is at the collision scene to conduct an investigation.

With the assistance of High River and Turner Valley RCMP Detachment members, the suspect vehicle was located.  Two males, aged 24 and 16-years-old, were arrested without incident, and are in police custody.  They are both facing multiple charges in relation to this occurrence.
