Okotoks RCMP Conducts High Number of Traffic Stops

Okotoks, AB – Okotoks RCMP conducted a high number of traffic stops over the July 22nd-24th weekend. A male (25) and female (55) were charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, both readings were 220 mg%, almost three times the legal limit of .08 mg%. Two adult male driver’s licences were suspended for 72 hours under the Immediate Roadside Sanctions, and one adult male driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days under the Alberta zero tolerance program for novice drivers.

Okotoks RCMP would like to remind drivers of the dangers of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and or drugs where the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle gets extremely diminished. The effects of alcohol can include blurred or double vision, impaired attention and slow reflexes. Your life and the lives of others can change forever if you drive after drinking alcohol. Drugs can also impair your ability to drive. This is true for both illegal drugs and prescription or over-the-counter medication.

During the August long weekend there will be a number of check stops conducted throughout Alberta.

If anyone observes abnormal driving behaviour, or any other crimes is asked to please contact the Okotoks RCMP at 403-938-4202 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477)
