The Calgary Police Commission (Tuesday) announced the appointment of Roger Chaffin as the city’s new Chief of Police, following ratification of the appointment by city council.
Roger Chaffin has been a dedicated member of the Calgary Police Service since 1986, most recently serving as Deputy Chief responsible for the Bureau of Organizational Support.
Throughout his career, Deputy Chief Chaffin has had experience across the organization including in the Professional Standards section, with the Chief Crowfoot Learning Centre, and as a duty inspector.
The Commission recommended this appointment to City Council after completing a broad and thorough process that followed best practices in executive recruitment.
Part of the process involved extensive community engagement with the citizens of Calgary and CPS staff to ensure that those who have a stake in the future of the service could share their thoughts on the skills and characteristics desired in a new Chief.
City Council ratified the Commission’s recommendation on October 6, 2015.
