New Area Code 825 in Alberta

New Area Code 825 in Alberta

With the continuing popularity for telecommunication services, the demand for new phone numbers will soon exceed the supply in Alberta.  Currently covered by area codes 403, 587, and 780, the solution was to add a fourth area code on April 9, 2016.  The new 825 area code will co-exist within the same geographic region as area codes 403, 587 and 780.

Anyone who already has a 403 / 587 / 780 area code number will keep the same phone number.

For local calls, continue to always enter 10 digits (area code + local number).

If you are applying for a new phone number:

You may receive a new number with the new area code if no current area code – 403 / 587 / 780 telephone numbers are available.

Important Information:

•    You will not be required to change your existing telephone number

•    The geographic boundaries that govern long distance will not change

•    All 3-digit numbers, including 211, 311, 411, 611, 811, 911 and emergency service (where applicable) will remain the same.
