Family & Community Support Services (FCSS) is offering their ‘Neighbourhood Block Party Trailer’ to High River residents who would like to organize block parties in their communities.
“Block parties are a great way for neighbours to get together, meet each other, have fun and make meaningful community connections,” says Caitland Asmundson, Community Support Worker with FCSS.
Residents can choose a date and location and then apply for an event permit though FCSS to book the trailer for their community. A $50.00 deposit is required and will be refunded when the trailer, keys and accessories are returned properly cleaned. Bookings are based on a first come first served basis and a minimum of two weeks’ notice is required.
“It’s a really easy process to book the trailer because we’ve created a block party kit that includes tips on how to organize the party as well as templates for invitations,” says Asmundson. “FCSS can also provide support in planning your block party and applying for your event permit.”
Included in the Block Party Trailer is a large triple wide barbeque, sound system with iPod hookup, sumo suits and mats, portable basketball net, sidewalk chalk and a variety of sporting equipment.
FCSS has also created a special mascot named BBQ BART (Bringing All Residents Together). Block party participants are invited to take photos with Bart at their event and distribute them via social media to help encourage other High River neighbourhoods to host a block party.
“We want people to have a great time with each other, take pictures with Bart, and talk about how fun the block parties are over Twitter, Facebook and Instagram using hashtags #BBQBart, #HRBlockParty,” says Asmundson.
