EDMONTON, AB: The never-ending parade of reckless NDP policies are making a bad situation worse for the more than 100,000 Albertans who lost their jobs over the past year and who are now looking for work in the bleakest job market the province has seen in decades, the Wildrose Official Opposition said today.
A Statistics Canada report revealed that Alberta’s unemployment rate climbed to 8.6 per centFriday, the highest it’s been since 1994. The report said that Alberta lost 104,000 jobs since this time last year. Wildrose Leader Brian Jean said that on the heels of calling a Lethbridge business owner “selfish,” launching a bizarre lawsuit against Enmax, and introducing a reckless and costly $3 billion carbon tax, Albertans are losing all faith in the NDP’s ability to improve their situations.
“The NDP is acting like it’s oblivious to the fact that over 100,000 Albertans have lost work and need a hand up,” Jean said. “You’d think the government would seek to do no more harm in tough economic times like these, but they’re doing just the opposite by raising everyone’s taxes and further harming our province’s reputation as a safe place to invest.”
Wildrose Shadow Jobs Minister Grant Hunter said the NDP has completely lost touch with the workers it swore it would defend.
“The NDP was supposed to stand up for workers, but workers are hurting all over the province, and they’re not getting any help from this government,” Hunter said. “The NDP have made a bad situation worse by introducing policies with no regard for their impact, and calling small business owners in our province ‘selfish’ when they have to lay off their employees to save their businesses.”
