The NDP must reevaluate their promises of higher spending, higher taxes, and zero measures to rein in spending in their first overdue budget, the Wildrose Official Opposition said today.
“The NDP government must deal with the fact that higher taxes, higher spending and record deficits will not lead Alberta on a path to prosperity,” Wildrose Leader Brian Jean said. “Massive spending does not always mean better outcomes, and in no case is that more true than Alberta. We need a realistic, stable and balanced plan that doesn’t come with putting the sustainability of future services at risk.”
Under the NDP, Alberta is on a record spending spree that puts Alberta among the highest spending provinces per-capita in Canada, spending more than $2,000 per capita than neighbouring British Columbia.
Premier Rachel Notley has since made the alarming announcement that she will not be opening the books to find inefficiencies within Alberta’s bloated budget.
“The premier should know that you can’t tax and spend your way back to prosperity,” Wildrose Shadow Finance Minister Derek Fildebrandt said. “There is bloat and mismanagement in our system that can and should be eliminated – a common sense review would find inefficiencies and reduce the burden that we will on be passing on to future generations.”
