NDP Fail to Include EMS as an Essential Service under Bill 4: Wildrose

Wildrose News Release bannerEDMONTON, AB (April 7, 2016): The NDP government failing to list Emergency Medical Services (EMS) as an essential service is offensive to front line paramedics and potentially risks these vital front line services, the Wildrose Official Opposition said today.

The amendment was debated this morning at the legislature.

“The NDP voting against including all Emergency Medical Services workers as an essential front line service fails to recognize the vital contribution paramedics and EMTs make to the emergency health care needs of Albertans,” Wildrose Shadow Seniors Minister and former paramedic Tany Yao said. “The NDP government, both today and yesterday, has rejected several common sense amendments like this to strengthen this legislation.”

Yao said this issue is incredibly important to Albertans and the NDP government needs to reconsider their approach.

“Albertans expect legislation that makes sense, respects front line workers and ensures health care services will be there when they need it,” Yao said.
