EDMONTON, AB: The threat of a carbon tax and the impacts of the NDP’s risky ideological agenda have investor confidence dropping and Albertans deeply worried, the Wildrose Official Opposition said yesterday.
The Premier’s office has stated that a carbon tax is something they are considering following a headline speech made by Rachel Notley to the Broadbent Institute in Toronto on Thursday.
“Albertans are worried as jobs are disappearing and investment in the energy sector is vanishing under the NDP government,” Wildrose Leader Brian Jean said. “Now is the time for the NDP to reevaluate their priorities and attempt to rebuild investor confidence, not experiment with a carbon tax that would raise the cost for every business and consumer in the province.”
At least 65,000 jobs have been lost during 2015, with no end in sight due to higher taxes, tighter regulations, and a job-suppressing royalty review being implemented by the NDP.
“Albertans are rightfully proud of our province’s environmental performance, and the NDP government should feel the same,” Wildrose Shadow Energy Minister Leela Aheer said. “This is a government that is clearly expecting the pricing of carbon to be a tax grab that they can bank on.”
