Nanton RCMP – Four Charged in Stolen Vehicle, Battery Theft

Nanton, Alberta – Nanton RCMP have charged four people found in a stolen vehicle following a theft from a local business.

On April 4th, just before 5:00pm, an eye witness called police to report a theft of used batteries from a local automotive shop. The witness was able to provide police with a description of the involved vehicle as well as a direction of travel. A member of the Nanton detachment located the vehicle a short time later and attempted a traffic stop on Highway 2 near High River. The vehicle failed to stop for police but quickly hit the ditch due to icy conditions, before any pursuit was initiated.

High River RCMP assisted in arresting four occupants from the vehicle which was found to have been reported stolen from Calgary. Other property believed to be stolen was also recovered in the vehicle.

”Thanks to an observant witness and a bit of help from icy roads, we were able to stop a few more thieves,” says Corporal Travis Ogilvie, Nanton RCMP detachment commander. “Those calls from the public to report suspicious activity or crimes in progress are always appreciated.”

Charges are pending against two men and two women for property related offences.
