Calgary, AB – Members of Parliament John Barlow and Joan Crockatt are applauding today’s announcement on flood recovery and mitigation by Alberta Premier Jim Prentice.
Both MP’s are encouraged to learn two flood mitigation projects have received the green light from the Premier’s office, to help minimize the risk of another major flood in southern Alberta.
This should help provide many residents of Calgary and High River added emotional and psychological security to move forward after this devastating natural disaster.
“Today’s announcement is welcomed news for the families and businesses in Macleod affected by last year’s flood,” said MP John Barlow. “There is still a lot of work to be done and I support the Government of Alberta in making a much needed commitment to resolve the outstanding DRP files and proceed with the High River diversion, which is critical to ensure the recovery of the Southern Alberta communities.”
“I want to thank the Premier for acting quickly on flood concerns. Flood recovery and mitigation remain at the forefront for many residents in Calgary Centre and across southern Alberta,” said MP Crockatt. “I know my constituents and all Albertans are encouraged to learn the province plans to clear a backlog of Disaster Recovery Program appeals. I am very optimistic the province can meet its target of settling outstanding appeals by December.”
