A Moose on the Loose!

Who would have thought you could get a chance to glimpse moose out here at Glenbow?!

Moose, Alces alces, are the largest memebrs of the deer family and are well known for their huge antlers which are found on the male members of the species.  Moose may typically be thought of as gentle giants, but they can run surprisingly fast – up to 56 kms – and can be aggressive if threatened. Over the past few weeks, two young male moose just beginning to grow their antlers have been spotted here at the park enjoying the healthy trees and bushes found in our small wooded areas.

The next time you take a walk down in the Narrows on the east side of the park, keep an eye out for these graceful mammals munching in the bushes.
