Minister of Human Services Irfan Sabir issued the following statement in response to the restoration of funding for the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate.
“Any time a child dies, it is a tragedy. As government we have a responsibility to ensure that when a child dies in our care, it is properly investigated, so we can make changes to prevent future tragedies.
“Our government believes independent oversight is crucial to this process. We applaud the decision by the Legislative Offices Committee to restore funding to the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate. We value the important work of the OCYA and will await future recommendations to see where we can make better choices to support vulnerable Albertans.”
