The Millarville-Stockland 4-H Club has had a busy fall. In November, we had a club meeting and a workshop. During the workshop, we watched a video called “Beef TV”. It was all about how to raise livestock.
This year the Millarville-Stockland 4-H club is raising a charity steer, a beautiful red Angus, which we have named Cooper. The charity steer will be auctioned off at 4-H on Parade at the Calgary Stampede grounds in early June. The Club voted for the sale proceeds to be donated to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children. The Shriner’s Hospital provides free medical care for children in need. For more information on the charity steer, please contact Susan Jeffery at (403) 931-3132.
Our club’s Christmas party was on December 11th. We went to Laser Quest and played played two rounds of laser tag. Megan Rawn won the first game and Wyatt Runge won the second game. Congratulations you two! Then we had pizza for supper and exchanged our Secret Santa gifts. Secret Santa is a gift exchange where everybody has to pick a name of somebody else in the club, then get a gift for that person without them knowing until after the gift exchange. It was a lot of fun. Club members also participated in the 4-H District Hamper Packing at the Millarville Racetrack on Dec 12. At this event, all the 4-H clubs in the District donate items and pack hampers for families in need. With lots of people helping out, 4-H is able to make a real difference for some families at Christmas time.
Our club is planed a family farm tour on Dec 20th. During the farm tour, members visit various club farms to see how the kids are raising their steers and heifers. It was fun to see all the other animals and the different set-ups. We are also planning a tire recycling fundraiser in the new year. We will be looking to the community to donate their used tires.
