Millarville-Stockland 4-H Beef & Sheep Club: Getting Ready for the Shows

Club Reporter Ethan Beck

Spring is here and the warm weather means it is grooming time. This March we have been getting our animals ready for the upcoming shows by clipping and sheering our animals.

On the 22nd of March there was a sheep clinic held at the Thorlacks Cattle Company in Airdrie. It was well attended with 122 participating from the Calgary Region. We learned how to sheer sheep and the technique of trimming for the show. There was a clinic on sheep health and diseases to watch out for. The clinicians also demonstrated how to judge and show your sheep. It was very informative and we learned a lot.

We have a cattle showmanship and grooming clinic as well on the 28th. Our club members will learn how to clip and show our cattle projects.

We were on the radio on March 30th as the 4-H Region was doing a promotional blitz interviewing me on what 4-H is all about. Stay tuned…
