Millarville-Stockland 4-H Beef Club News: Crazy Weather Didn’t Stop Club Activity

Another month of snow and crazy weather…At least the steers are hungry and eating like champs in the cold. Our members continue to work on their animals, with a couple junior shows coming up, putting on hip waders to lead animals in the snow is going to pay off!

We held our annual public speaking at Millarville Race Track February 4, 2018. Winners for the junior category were Maddie Watkins, Jessie Blatz, alternate Grayson Bamford. Intermediate winners were, Harry Rawn, Clara Blatz, alternate Chloe McWhir. For Seniors – Carson Campbell, Elizabeth Campbell, alternate Wyatt Runge. Jessie Blatz, Maddie Watkins, Clara Blatz, Chloe McWhir , and Carson Campbell all attended areas representing MillarvilleStockland. From there, on to Districts, where Clara Blatz, Jessie Blatz and Carson Campbell presented their speeches again. After the dust settled Carson Campbell and his prepared speech on culinary arts was selected to move on representing Millarville-Stockland at the Regional Level March 24, 2018 in Strathmore.

The Senior members had a blast at the all night laser tag event held March 17. We have some fun events to look forward to in March. Cow vet Cody Creelman will be speaking for us at our next meeting – he is so informative and fun! We were also looking forward to a grooming clinic March 24, 2018 led by our own Peter Watkins, where we could practice our clipping and showmanship. But due to a very unfortunate accident with the Millarville Race Track Arena, we will hold a Grooming Demonstration at Todd and Angie’s barn.
