Millarville School News: What’s Happening in the Classrooms

MCS - school playKinders are inquirying into what we learn from our families by investigating family trees. They will also find out who does all the work around the house! Mom? Dad?

The Grade 1s are researching arctic animals and one student wants to find out how reindeer fly. Hopefully they will find some answers!

The Grade 2s are comparing different kinds of Tall Tales and will be busy writing personal stories as their unit unfolds.

The Grade 3s made some beautiful prints and looked at symmetry, area, and pattern. The Tunisian tiles are usually blue, yellow, orange, or green. They are influenced by Islam.

The Grade 4s spent the day at the Glenbow Museum learning about those special risk-takers who settled in our province. Did you know that cowboy Maverick, John Ware lived close to the Fisher’s property here in Millarville?

The Grade 5s are wrapping up their unit of inquiry by filming “Canadian Minute” videos. These will be shared with the class next week. The next unit in Grade 5 is the PYP Exhibition!

The Grade 6s enjoying their work with fractions and are finishing their novel study, I Was a Rat, by Philip Pullman. They are enjoying their basketball league with other grade 6 classes in our area.

The Grade 7s are loving their phys-ed unit on Ringette! Someone commented that “this may be my favourite sport!”.

The Grade 8s hosted the assembly on Caring this week, acting out with Western flair how kindness can infuse anyone. Their short video showed what caring means to us at MCS.

And we all think it’s pretty awesome that Mr. Hanson got engaged over the Christmas break! Congratulations!
