Millarville School: Go Wildcats!

MCS Wildcats logoI want to give a personal and heartfelt thank-you to all of our parents, students, and staff for a wonderful start to my first full year as a teacher and athletic coordinator. Your support of myself and our student athletes has been incredible both in your willingness to contribute and your passion for their individual successes. I look forward to building on this relationship as we move forward throughout the school year.

In the first three months we have already accomplished a lot in the gym. Upper school Phys. Ed students (grades 6 – 8) have completed two units on which they have been assessed: cross country and volleyball/tripleball. We have also completed a soccer unit, a handball unit and are well into basketball. We will be taking a break in basketball to fit in a small Dance unit before Christmas break. The younger grades (K – 5) have had a mix of activities including tag games, throwing and catching activities, and even some experience with our school sports like cross country, volleyball/tripleball, and basketball. All students have shown a willingness to participate, even if it isn’t their favourite activity, and their hard work has been appreciated.

Our athletic calendar has been in full swing for a while now, having transitioned from cross country to volleyball/tripleball, and now basketball in the last week of November and into December. All of our Wildcat athletes and coaches have done their part to uphold our very high standards and have embraced what it means to be a Wildcat student athlete. From running club, to cross country team, to volleyball/tripleball and now basketball our kids have taken it upon themselves to be at almost every practice and game on time, prepared for competition, with a smile on their face and a desire to achieve their personal best. Our goal as young athletes should be, and will be, to get better every time we step onto the field of play. Improvement over the season and over the year for the athlete is our main focus, and the results will take care of themselves. Thanks also to our coaches on staff Mrs. Orme, Ms. Davis, Ms. Olver, Ms. Alm, Mr. Hanson, and Mr. Gibson for their time and energy already this year.

Thank you again, and in advance, for all of your support this year. I know our hard work will make this a very positive year for Wildcat athletics. I encourage all parents and students to come out and cheer on our student athletes as we engage in competition throughout the year. Be sure to check out the calendar located in the Messenger to find dates and times of events being hosted by our athletes. Let’s make our little community school a special place for other teams to come and compete in! As always if you ever have any questions please don’t hesitate to call me at the school or email me. Have a wonderful week and we will see you at tip-off! Go Wildcats!

Sincerely,
Kyle Cantelon
