The members of the Millarville Mutts, Mustangs and Marksmen 4-H club have been participating in a variety of engaging activities this year.

On February 7, the club’s annual public speaking competition was held at the Millarville Racetrack Hall. Twenty-nine speakers (including three very brave cleavers) participated, all of whom demonstrated strong communication skills. Congratulations to the winners of the competition (as follows), who will attend the area-level public speaking competition on February 28. Juniors; 1st-Erin Grogan, 2nd-Chloe McWhir, Alternate-Genevieve Moreau; Intermediates 1st-Veronica Moreau 2nd-Mckynna Furgala, Alternate-Kailey Morrison, Seniors 1st-Cassidy Barnert, 2nd-Megan Rawn, Alternate-Johann Ladiges

A special thank you to our judges for their invaluable comments and guidance, to Shelley Glatt (who organized the competition), to our volunteers, and to our sponsor, AltaLink.

Another thank you goes out to the club leaders for their commitment to organizing activities. Members in the Mustangs project have attended a variety of clinics this winter-most notable is a Polocrosse clinic held on January 25 and a trail clinic held on February 15. Those in the Mutts project, on the other hand, particularly enjoyed a training session held by guest trainer Rommy, who practices agility training and rhythmic dance with dogs. As for the members in the Marksmen project, they have been improving their skills at archery by shooting targets from varied distances of ten, fifteen, and twenty yards. They were also taught a new technique for waxing their bows. Let’s hope the special TLC will serve them well. Upcoming 4-H events include an all-night laser tag activity on March 14 and a family fun night on March 20.

In all, it has been a busy time for the Millarville Mutts, Mustangs, and Marksmen, but everyone looks forward to events that are still to come.
