The fire in Fort McMurray now covers an area the size of Calgary. Our hearts go out to those affected. To help, you can contribute on-line to the Alberta Fires Appeal sponsored by the Canadian Red Cross where each donation by an individual will be matched by the Government of Canada. Its location is at: https://donate.redcross.ca/ea-action/action?&ea.client.id=1951&ea.campaign.id=50639 or you can Google “Alberta fires appeal.”
We note that the Edmonton Humane Society is spearheading a disaster relief for the animals of Fort Mac and area and has set up a special fund to help in acquiring supplies and necessary care items for the animals that were left behind or are in need of temporary care until people can get resettled.
For further information, go to: https://www.edmontonhumanesociety.com/support-ehs/fort-mcmurray-wildfires or just Google “ehs wildfires” (without the quotation marks). They have daily posting of new information. Yesterday they wrote:
“We have a dire need for EXTRA large kennels/carriers — please donate directly to the Edmonton Humane Society.
“We have A LOT of pet food to give away. PLEASE come to the shelter if you are in need as a result of the WILDFIRES.
“Please be prepared to show proof of address in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.”
We are sure you recall how difficult it was for local animal shelters after the Calgary flood, and this is so much bigger.
