Message from TV Mayor

COVID-19 has forced all of us to stand up and pay attention; to take preventive measures so that we can protect ourselves, our families and our community from this rapidly spreading virus. The number of cases is rising at a steady rate, but so is the response to slowing its spread. We need to do this together – we need your help.

It is very hard to get used to the idea of isolation and social distancing however, it is extremely important for all of us to follow the restrictions.

Turner Valley Council and staff are committed to the health and safety of the public and our employees, while maintaining essential services that residents rely on every day. Strict safety protocols are in place in public facilities remaining open, however, we ask residents to avoid visiting the municipal office, firehall and the public works shop unless absolutely necessary.

For those facing financial hardship, or temporary layoffs, please be diligent in applying for employment insurance and other federal supports. Council is exploring options with administration to help ease the financial burden on our local residents and businesses, including tax and utility payment deferrals and alternate payment options. This, along with supports provided through the provincial and federal government, will provide much needed relief to those needing it most. The situation is changing as fast as we can make decisions, but we are closely monitoring all information as it becomes available. More details will be shared as we process them.

To reiterate what has been said many times before, reduce the risk of getting sick by practicing social distancing, ensuring at least 6 feet between people. Travellers must self-isolate immediately upon arriving back home. This includes making alternate arrangements for groceries, bill payments, and other reasons to venture out of the house. We owe it to each other not to take unnecessary risks even if we believe the risk to be low. This is a critical step in helping to protect others and reducing the spread of the virus. Full details to help guide residents, including tips on how to self-isolate and the COVID-19 self-assessment test can be found on the COVID-19 info for Albertans website.

We want to assure Turner Valley residents, businesses and organizations, that we are in good hands with our staff, emergency responders, firefighters and amazing community volunteers who are stepping up to assist neighbours where needed. In this challenging time, it is extremely important that we continue to follow the direction of Alberta Health and all the recommendations that come from the Province. It is our duty to try and help stop the spread however possible. Be aware of social distancing when shopping, wash those hands and make sure the kids do as well. We all have a responsibility to make an effort and not take things for granted, so please remember to be kind, courteous, and safe.

The provincial and federal governments provide daily updates on programs to support individuals, families and businesses. Links for these programs are posted to the Town of Turner Valley website.
