The M.D. of Foothills has declared a Local State of Emergency in response to the Wildland Fire North and East of the hamlet of Blackie, Alberta.
Update 19:40 hrs:
Foothills Fire Department reports that this fire is now under control.
Grassland fire burning north east of Blackie in the area of 482 Avenue and 304 Street East and is moving quickly in a north-easterly direction. Winds in the area are gusting at high speed and shifting direction. Smoke may severely reduce visibility and create hazardous road conditions.
Foothills Fire Department stations including Blackie, Cayley, Heritage Pointe, Cayley, and Longview are currently being assisted by Okotoks, High River, Vulcan County and Claresholm Fire Departments.
One firefighter sustained minor smoke inhalation injuries, was transported to High River Hospital and is currently in good condition.
People in the area are asked to shelter in place. Close doors, windows and vents. Leave the area if it is safe to do so. Seek shelter in an open area clear from trees, plants and flammable structures.
The Public are being asked to stay away from the area.
