The MD of Foothills has joined a group of eight rural municipalities in southern Alberta who have hired the Oldman River Regional Services Commission (ORRSC) to create a series of eleven rural-to-rural intermunicipal development plans. The purpose of these plans is to improve consultation with respect to planning and development between rural municipalities who share boundaries. The MD of Foothills is currently participating in the creation of four intermunicipal development plans, with Vulcan County, the M.D. of Willow Creek, Wheatland County and the M.D. of Ranchland. These plans will generally impact lands within two miles of the boundary between the M.D. and the adjacent municipality.

Three Open Houses were held in early June (at community halls in Blackie, Cayley and Carseland)

The Municipal District of Foothills No. 31 and the Municipal District of Ranchland No. 66 are holding an Open House to obtain input on the draft Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP). The Open House is a drop-in format, with displays highlighting key concepts and policies of the Draft Plan. The plan is intended to foster on-going cooperation and coordination between the two municipalities, as well as establish a framework for subdivision and development application referral requirements for lands along the boundary between the two municipalities (Plan Area). The Municipal District of Foothills No. 31 and the Municipal District of Ranchland No. 66 elected officials, municipal staff and planning advisors will be in attendance to gather public feedback on the draft plan.
A copy of the Draft IDP is available for review at the M.D. of Foothills No. 31 and M.D. of Ranchland No. 66 offices during normal business hours and on-line at For additional information, please contact members of the project team, Diane Horvath or Cam Klassen, at the Oldman River Regional Services Commission at or or Toll-Free at 1-877-329-1387.
