A HUGE thank you to the Millarville Community School Families & Teachers, Permaculture Calgary Guild Members, and the Leaf Ninjas, who came out to help on Saturday’s Garden Permablitz. Everyone was busy helping install an important feature in our future food forest, garden, and outdoor learning space – the Water Harvesting and Distribution Swales! Water is integral in any planting system and requires accurate measurements to be successful. We can’t express enough our gratitude for your hard work and dedication. We moved a lot of earth and dug 250 feet of swales – that’s longer than the hockey rink. Phewf… Job well done everyone! Big shout outs to the following MCS students, families, and staff members who helped on Saturday.

Also thank you to:
The Pain family for the bark mulch, the Grover family for the loam and drainage gravel, and the Runge family for the aged manure – that stuff is like black gold!
The Permaculture Calgary Members who came to learn more about swales and in the community spirit, lend a helping hand – Cheryl, Cos, Heather, May, Nolan & family, Valerie, and Sandy.
Luke Kimmel & Jordan Saunders of the Leaf Ninjas who shared their knowledge and strong work ethic, and helped organize the day. Jordan was a former student at Millarville School from Grade 1 to Grade 8 and was very excited to be back helping out.
This is just the beginning of an incredible legacy project. Stay tuned for the next steps in the journey. As Reed said, “I can’t wait to come back one day and say, I helped make this!”
