Alberta Budget – More Funding for AB Public Libraries
The Alberta budget announced on March 26th included more funding for Alberta’s public libraries. Late that afternoon, Minister Diana McQueen shared the news that provincial operating grants for public libraries have increased by $3.5 million. This will allow per capita grant amounts to increase by 10 cents and for grants to be paid at 2014 population levels!
The minister indicated that funding public libraries is a high priority and that this increase is in response to many letters and meetings. A former member of the Yellowhead Regional Library Board, she appreciates the value of public libraries and Alberta’s strong public library network.
