HIGH RIVER, AB: The majority of water restrictions on High River residents have been lifted this morning as the Town’s water treatment plant came back online and the water reservoir was replenished to a safe level. The Town has downgraded to Water Conservation Level 3, which means that watering of lawns is restricted to one day a week and only in the morning or evening.
“We would like to thank all residents and businesses for their assistance in conserving water yesterday and into the night,” said Mayor Craig Snodgrass. “It’s great to see the community working together when issues like this arise.”
During Water Conservation Level 3, watering of lawns is only permitted one day a week between 5-10 a.m. and 7-11 p.m. for each area of town:
• Southwest – Monday
• Southeast – Tuesday
• Northeast / Northwest – Wednesday
At Level 3, filling pools and other recreation facilities is not permitted and New Lawn Watering Permits will not be issued.
Hand watering of trees, shrubs, flowers and vegetable gardens is permitted at any time.
“The move to Water Conservation Level 3 is being done as a precaution to ensure the reservoir returns to full capacity and can meet the needs of the town,” said Albert Flootman, Director of Engineering, Planning & Operational Services for the Town. “Our staff continue to diligently monitor the treatment plant as it returns to full operations.”
The Town has determined that an equipment failure at the water treatment plant led to the flooding Tuesday morning that resulted in the shutdown. The system is being reviewed, and improvements will be made to ensure this problem does not happen in the future.
