Longview Welcomes Soldiers to the Legacy Memorial Garden

20140723_163241 The Village of Longview unveiled the statues that have now completed the Legacy Memorial Garden last Saturday, July 19th. The garden was officially opened in 2012. The statues were late arriving so it was decided that the 50th Anniversary of the incorporation of the Village would be a great time for the official unveiling. The approaching 100 year Anniversary of WWI also made this an especially momentous occasion.

In attendance for the unveiling were MP for Macleod John Barlow, MLA for Livingstone/Macleod Pat Stier, MLA for Calgary West Ken Hughes (on behalf of the Premier), Foothills Lions club members Diane Bray and Don Gallaher (who was also representing the veterans) and local novelist Sue Raby-Dunne (author of Bonfire: the Chestnut Gentleman, the true story of John McCrae’s journey through WWI, as told by his war horse, Bonfire.)
