Legislative Assembly of Alberta Celebrates Vaisakhi

Every year, Alberta’s thriving Sikh population gathers to honour Vaisakhi, a special celebration that formalizes the Sikh identity and protects the fundamental principles of Sikhism: truth, justice and equality.

Speaker Wanner will host this year’s Vaisakhi celebration in the Legislature Building rotunda on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, beginning at 12:10 p.m. sharp.

This year’s speakers will include:

  • Honourable Robert E. Wanner, MLA, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta
  • The Honourable Rachel Notley, Premier of Alberta
  • Mr. Prasad Panda, MLA (on behalf of the Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition)
  • Mr. Prab Gil, MLA (on behalf of the Leader of the Progressive Conservative Opposition)
  • Mr. Pal Singh Purewal, Chairman, Nagar Kirtan Committee

The event will also feature a Sikh martial arts performance by Baba Fateh Singh Sovereign Gatka Akhara.

O Canada and Deh Shiva Bar Mohe sung by Edmonton Khalsa School.

A light reception provided by the Sikh community will follow in the Lower Rotunda.
