“Thanks to our development of both training and national level track and field competitions, youth across Canada are able to get involved in sports on a level that can lead to international success,” says Dominion President of The Royal Canadian Legion, Tom Eagles. “The success of this program has resulted in the Legion’s continued commitment to Canadian youth by funding the current Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships since its inception in 1977,” adds Eagles.

The Legion was selected to receive the “Hommage Athlétas” Award for its support of training, competition, and promotional activities of a national sports program. Since 1977 the Legion has sponsored thousands of Canadian athletes to reach their potential. As a result the majority of Canadian Olympic Track & Field athletes have either passed through this program or have been directly influenced by it.

The Legion is also particularly pleased to host the Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships in Sainte-Thérèse/Blainville, Quebec in August 2015 and again in 2016. Additional information on these championships may be found at: http://www.legion.ca/youth-athletics/
