Laurie Boyd Bridge Replacement in Okotoks

The Laurie Boyd Pedestrian Bridge, located behind the Okotoks Public Library, is the primary pedestrian connection to the pathway network in the river valley from the north side of town. To enhance active transportation for users, the bridge will be replaced this summer. The existing bridge is expected to remain open for the majority of the construction. The new bridge infrastructure will include:

  • A much wider bridge deck to accommodate greater access and various modes of active transportation (e.g. a double-wide stroller)
  • Lighting and a shallower bridge camber (arch) for better visibility and easier access
  • Increased load allowance to support maintenance and emergency vehicles
