Lake Louise RCMP charge suspect who fled from Police

Lake Louise, AB – On March 1, 2016, at approximately 9:00 PM Canmore RCMP initiated a traffic stop on Highway 1 near Canmore.  The suspect vehicle had previously been reported stolen from Strathmore, Alberta. 
The driver of the vehicle initially stopped but then fled from police heading westbound on Highway 1 at a high rate of speed. 
Lake Louise RCMP with the assistance of Banff RCMP, Banff GIS and Cochrane Roving Traffic successfully intercepted the stolen vehicle.  The male driver, was arrested and taken into custody without further incident.  No injuries were sustained to the suspect or RCMP members.   
31- year-old Christopher JOHNSON of Winnipeg, Manitoba has been charged with the following offences.
  • possession of property obtained by crime over $5000,
  • operation of a motor vehicle while being pursued by police and;
  • driving while disqualified as well as a provincial driving offence. 
Christopher Johnson was remanded in custody and appeared in Canmore Provincial Court this morning.
