Jean Statement on Keystone XL Legal Fight

EDMONTON, AB (January 7, 2016): Today, Wildrose Leader Brian Jean released the following statement on TransCanada’s decision to file a legal claim over the Obama administration’s rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline.

“I fully support TransCanada’s pursuit to recover the enormous costs and damages it has faced as a result of a decision that was driven by misguided political pressures instead of facts.

“The State Department has itself noted previously that the construction of the pipeline would create jobs and have no meaningful impact on global emissions.

“Keystone XL also managed to receive bipartisan support from the U.S. Congress and the U.S. Senate. Still, it was the first cross-border pipeline ever to be rejected by a U.S. government.

“Premier Rachel Notley has in the past refused to be an advocate for this much-needed pipeline or set the record straight on our environmental record.

“Wildrose is proud of Alberta’s record on energy, the environment and human rights. We will continue to fight for pipelines in every direction and defend Alberta’s energy interests.”
