The Foothill Regional Services Commission (FRSC) announces that effective January 1, 2016 improved safety measures will be in place. When wind speeds reach and exceed 60 km/hr the landfill may be closed at management’s discretion. August 1, 2015, the Landfill brought in a new safety measure to close the landfill to all users, when wind speeds reached and exceeded 70 km/hr. During this recent fall windy season, it became obvious that there was a need to be able to choose to close the landfill once wind speeds reach and exceed 60 km/hr.
Joe Angevine, Manager of the Landfill explains, “Since implementing our 70 km/hr closure policy, we have had two days where winds have exceeded 60km/hr. It became clear that 60km/hr winds were creating dangerous conditions for our site. When wind speeds reach 60 km/hr, the potential for someone to be hit with flying debris at the landfill or bin area is a very real concern and we want to ensure the safety of our employees and customers”.
Closure information will be posted on the MD’s website, Facebook page, Twitter and at the landfill. If it’s a windy day and you are planning a trip to the landfill, please check first.
