One of the most inspiring shows in the Foothills area returns for its 15th year in High River. The High River Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints presents “A HOME FOR CHRIST”, a Nativity Exhibit.
Cultural representations of the nativity scene are set in the midst of a transformed gymnasium. This year we welcome you “home” then invite you “outdoors.” There you can view hundreds of creches from various countries throughout the world.
The beautiful story of Christ’s birth is told in a variety of mediums. Large or small, wood, paper or glass, finely crafted or primitive, the creches are a delight to behold. Each has a story to tell of its origin or its history with the owner.
One couple from Australia were so impressed with their experience that the man said he was going to send us a creche when he got home. This donated creche features – you guessed it – kangaroos!
Last year after our devastating flood, low spirits, exhaustion and poor health as a result of the tragedy, and with many cherished nativity sets lost in the debris, we began to feel that we just couldn’t manage the exhibit and add to our stress level. However, we decided that the Nativity Exhibit was necessary to give hope not only to ourselves, but to the community. Amazingly we received nearly 400 creches on loan – the most we have ever had in our history.
Please join the many individuals and families who make this event a traditional part of their Christmas celebrations.
The creches will be on display at 909 – 9th St SW in High River. Free admission. Times are:
