Government Finance Officers Association of Canada and the US Awards Town
High River, Alberta — The Town of High River is one of the few recipient municipalities in Alberta to be recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association of Canada and US (GFOA) for the prestigious Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2019 budget documents. This marks the first time the Town has received this honour from the association, which represents over 1,600 participants across North America.

“The Town of High River is being recognized in a league of excellence reserved for only a few municipalities across North America. We appreciate the timing of this award, as Town staff and Council are presently working together through the 2020 budgeting process,” said Mayor Craig Snodgrass. “This recognition demonstrates our sound fiscal management on behalf of rate payers. It also speaks to the expertise of our Finance team and to Council’s commitment to work together with staff and the community as we develop our yearly budgets focusing on high standards and best practices.”
“This award is a significant achievement by the Town’s Finance team and the entire Town staff. In order to receive the budget award, the Town had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation,” added Kola Oladimeji, Chief Financial Officer for the Town. “I commend our staff for their outstanding work that contributed to this recognition and to our ongoing budgeting and reporting practices for the Town.”
The Town of High River has also received the GFOA Canadian Financial Reporting award for excellent annual financial reporting for two consecutive years of 2016 and 2017. The adoption of the Town’s long-term Fiscal Management Strategy for 2019-2028 demonstrates the Town’s sound Financial Stability & Sustainability Strategy.
