High River Ranks Number 5 Overall in Canada’s Best Places for Business

HIGH RIVER, AB: The Town is pleased to announce that High River has ranked fifth in the 2nd annual list of Canada’s Best Places for Business by Canadian Business and PROFIT.

“We are thrilled for the rest of Canada to hear what we already know here in High River; that this is a fantastic place to live and do business,” says Jodi Dawson, manager of economic development with the Town. “We are brimming with opportunity and eager to welcome more businesses who want to be part of strengthening and growing an already amazing community.”

Produced by two of the country’s best-known business media outlets — Canadian Business and PROFIT — the 2016 Canada’s Best Places for Business ranking factors in more than 20 indicators of cost, market trends and business friendliness collected from various sources and participating municipalities. The ranking is designed to help entrepreneurs and executives make smarter decisions on where to start, expand or relocate their enterprises.

This recognition comes at a very exciting time for High River as the Town is in its final phases of a complete downtown revitalization project. The new downtown will provide a vital centre for creativity and entrepreneurship and the enhanced streetscapes will create new spaces within the public realm that can be used and programmed for street performances, events, markets, and festivals.

“High River has all of the right ingredients for business success. Our Town mission is ‘doing it better, being innovative and daring to be different,’” adds Dawson. “When you pair this commitment with no business tax, competitive property prices, low operating costs and a strong local workforce, High River is an easy choice.”

The business community in High River has experienced more than a 90 per cent recovery rate since 2013 and over 155,000 square feet of commercial/industrial development space has opened in town.

“It takes the support of an entire community to foster successful businesses,” said James Cowan, Editor-in-chief of Canadian Business and PROFIT. “The municipalities on our ranking show a clear commitment to business-friendly policies and economic development. That’s good news for their business owners, entrepreneurs and residents.”
