High River fire crews contain fire at seniors’ residence

HIGH RIVER, AB: High River fire crews have contained a fire that started early Tuesday morning at the Medicine Tree Manner and will continue to search for hot spots into the evening.

There have been no injuries and the cause of the incident is not known.

Nearby Soderberg house has not been affected by the fire, but 20 residents were safely evacuated to a local hotel as a precaution.

There continue to be road closures in the area, however, Macleod Trail S.W. has reopened as one lane of alternating traffic.

Any residents in the area are advised to be cautious as roads and sidewalks are very icy due to the water used in the response. Town crews are preparing to deploy hot sanding equipment to safely de-ice the area and are pumping standing water away from the scene.

The Town thanks the High River Fire Department and surrounding communities’ fire departments, as well as the many community groups that offered assistance in responding to the fire.
