High River Council Awards Tender for Southwest Dike and 12th Ave Work

Work to upgrade and repair 12th Avenue will also occur; construction begins this spring

HIGH RIVER AB – At a Special Meeting of Council today, Council voted to award construction of the Southwest Dike and the 12th Avenue Project to Kidco Construction Ltd. Kidco Construction was the lowest bidder from a shortlist of 11 contractors who pre-qualified to submit a tender on both projects.

“We were ready to move forward quickly once we received approval from Alberta Environment and Parks in January,” notes Mayor Craig Snodgrass. “The completion of these two major projects are a high priority for both Council and residents as they will mark the final step of the Town’s flood protection plan.”

Construction to complete the Southwest Dike will begin as soon as the weather permits this spring with anticipated completion of the dike in the fall. The 12th Avenue project will follow the same timeframe, as the road is upgraded and repaired at the same time between Baker Street and 1st Street SW.

The contract amount being awarded is $12,317,547.53 and falls within the funding provided by the Government of Alberta for this project.  Additional evaluation was undertaken to confirm the company’s technical ability to carry out all requirements noted in the tender document.

“Town work will also continue on other priority infrastructure projects starting soon as construction season is around the corner,” added Mayor Snodgrass. “We are pleased to be able to proceed with this work, which has the additional benefit of stimulating the economy during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
